5 for 2013 - My Top 5 Hip-Hop Songs of the Year

Putting this list together was just as tough as putting together my non hip-hop songs, but for an entirely different reason...I was pretty disappointed with the hip-hop that I heard this year.  A lot of artists came out with new music, but most of it wasn't that sweet to my ears.  Anyway, here are my top 5 for 2013.

5.  Rap God by Eminem

Aptly titled, Eminem goes absolutely nuts with his flow at about four and a half minutes in.  Seeing him do it live is impressive as hell.

4.  Nothing Like Me by Dom Kennedy

DJ Mustard's production on this track is fun as hell.  Something to blast in the summer next to the pool.  Still waiting for Dom Kennedy to take over the left coast.  You can find this cut on either DJ Mustard's 'Ketchup' Mixtape or Dom's 'Get Home Safely'.

3.  Blood on the Leaves by Kanye West

Yes, it has a ton of things that I can't stand...West doing the auto-tune thing and ridiculous lyrics, but when the beat drops on here, it's something special.  One of just a few highlights on Yeezus.

2.  Pray by Gilbere Forte

I had never heard of Forte before this year and this was by far, my favorite song from his debut, Pray.  This feels like what Yeezus should have been.  Forte's delivery has bite and works perfectly over the Fiona Apple sample.

1.  Holy Grail by JAY Z featuring Justin Timberlake

I'll never forget standing in the crowd in Hershey, PA, nearly front row this past summer when the keys on this song rang out and we looked up to see JT singing above us. We, along with the rest of the sold out venue, went bananas, captivated by him, bathed in the lights.  Then, wham...the beat kicks in and Jay busts out on stage, heads of thousands tracking with him as he traversed the stage.  Two legends kill this one.

Honorable Mentions:  Pound Cake by Drake featuring JAY Z, Pink Toes by Childish Gambino, She Knows by J. Cole, REMember by Mac Miller, Answer by Tyler The Creator, Stay Out The Way by WC featuring Daz & Snoop Dogg

So, what do you think?  Agree?  Disagree?
