I’m an IPA lover. When it comes to alcohol, IPA’s are really all I drink. For years, I’ve heard that Pliny the Elder was essentially the holy grail of beers (aside from Pliny the Younger, which is an extremely limited once a year release), and I’ve always wanted to try it. The Russian River Brewery is only about two hours away, but I’ve never made the trek up to buy a glass. This weekend, my best friend came by to watch the football games and brought a handful of bottles!
I was a little worried that Pliny would be a bit overhyped, considering I’ve heard so much about it over the years. It wasn’t. This might be the smoothest double IPA I’ve ever had. It’s definitely got the hoppy bitterness you’d expect and the bite you want, but it’s not a rough down. I could drink it all day (although at 8% abv, I don’t think my brain would agree).
If you find yourself in the California North Bay, don’t leave without trying a Pliny. There are a few places aside from the brewery that you can find it around California - they have a finder on their website. Drink up!
